Edible Oil Solutions

Edible oils help keep the world fed - at home cooks and professional chefs use them for frying, baking, and every other type of cooking or food preparation! Viking pumps have been used in the production of edible oils for decades. Edible oils are fatty liquids that are extracted from many different types of vegetables and seeds including: olives, canola, and sesame. Blends of these oils are typically referred to as simply "vegetable" oil. The 4124A & 4324A Series™ are cast iron pumps and can handle high temperatures and have abrasive resistant material options.

Surfactant Pumping Solutions

Surfactants are a group of synthetic chemicals engineered to reduce the surface tension of the liquid in which they are dissolved. What this means is that they can help break down oils and hold dirt or other particles in suspension. Surfactants are used in many household products like toothpaste, shampoo, and laundry detergent. The 4127C Series™ are 316 stainless steel pumps with cartridge lip seal options. They have capacities up to 320 gallons per minute. The stainless steel 1127C Series™ come with Viking Pump's own O-Pro® Guard seal to help minimize leakage and resist abrasives.

Ink Pumping Solutions

Inks, especially those used in flexible packaging, are shear-sensitive and can have many variables that may lead to abrasive wear or chemical compatibility concerns. Some of these include the use of solvents, waxes, or surfactants and the possibility of semi-solid resin particles and pigment load concentration. 4624B Series™ pumps are cast iron with abrasive resistant sealing options and low shear capabilities. They have capacities up to 180 gallons per minute. 4127C Series™ pumps are 316 stainless-steel with high viscosity and abrasive resistant sealing options.

Chocolate Pumping Solutions

Out of all of the applications where you can find a Viking pump, chocolate may be the most delicious. Viking pumps are the pump of choice for the processing, transfer, and recirculation of chocolate. The chocolate production process can be simply described with these steps: cacao beans are roasted and ground, then mixed with oils into a semi-liquid. This early stage is known as "bitter" chocolate. From here, sugar can be added to make "sweet" chocolate - milk can be added for "milk" chocolate - and if the chocolate has been thinned down is called chocolate liquor.

Black Liquor Soap Pumping Solutions

Black liquor soap is a natural byproduct that separates from black liquor during the kraft wood pulping process used to make paper products. The soap is skimmed off and used to make tall oil. Black liquor soap can be abrasive and have varying viscosities making it a challenge to pump and seal. The cast iron 1124A Series™ features Viking Pump's O-Pro® Barrier seal, which virtually eliminates the leaking and mess associated with packed pumps. These pumps are constructed with hardened materials and have capacities up to 400 gallons per minute.

Soap Pumping Solutions

Soaps are a group of cleaning chemicals derived from plant oils or animal fats - they help to dissolve dirt and other particles so that they can be carried away by water. There are many different types of soap…like liquid soap, rosin soap, and castile soap…and they each come with their own properties. The 4127C Series™ is stainless steel and has cartridge lip seal options. They have capacities up to 320 gallons per minute. 4124A Series™ pumps are cast iron and have cartridge lip seal options. Bushing material can be adjusted to meet process needs.

Soy and Corn Oil Pumping Solutions

Soy and corn oils are similar to other edible oils, including palm, peanut, and sunflower oils. The three main processes for producing these oils are extraction, refining, and blending. Viking pumps are typically found in byproduct applications related to the processing of edible oils. These include gums, soap stock, and free fatty acid distillates - as well as product transfer, blending, and loadout operations. Viking Pump's 4124A Series™ is cast iron and has high temperature and abrasive resistant material options.

Use of Bitumen & Asphalt: The heat is on

Search Description

Asphalt, also known as bitumen, is a sticky, black, and highly viscous liquid, or semi-solid form of petroleum. Asphalt is man's earliest organic engineering material. Its application as an adhesive and waterproof material dates to the dawn of civilization. The asphalt market thrives today largely for road building, roofing, and various types of repair work where its water-proofing qualities are required, as well as in rubber and adhesive compounds.

Viking at the Museum: The Ice Breaker Mackinaw

Search Description

On December 17, 1941- just 10 days after the attack on Pearl Harbor- the United States Congress approved the construction of the Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw WAGB-83. The purpose of the ship was to forge a path for transport ships by breaking up thick ice that formed on the Great Lakes during frigid winter months. This allowed iron ore, limestone, and coal to be transported keeping vital war materials in production.
