Pump History: 4 Generations of Viking Pumps and Engineering Excellence

The first generation of these pumps were engineered in the 1940s for truck-mounted applications. They were bolted to the chassis and driven off the PTO. That harsh environment established design features that would define the product line: a footed mounting bracket, a rotatable casing, and a thrust bearing housing for precise end clearance adjustment. The second generation saw a change to the bearing housing (while maintaining the same bearings) and an expanded range of sizes, material-specific model numbers and the offering of integrally jacketed versions.

Change from a stuffing box seal to behind the rotor mechanical seal in a Viking Pump

Welcome, in this video we will guide you through the conversion from a stuffing box mechanical seal to a behind the rotor seal in Viking pumps with U-Plus™ bracket. This video applies to these pump models…

Before you begin, please consult the appropriate technical service manual for safety information. A copy of the latest revision can be found on our website at vikingpump.com.

To begin, remove the stainless-steel window guards from the bracket.

How do you pump filled asphalt?

What is filled asphalt? And how do you pump it? Filled asphalts contain particulate and are used in the production of roofing materials. They are typically handled at elevated temperatures to reduce viscosity. So what's required to pump filled asphalt? Filled asphalt will solidify if it cools. Jacketed pumps allow heating with hot oil or steam, and electrically heated options are also available. Filled asphalts can be quite abrasive. Hardened parts and materials help the pump withstand abrasive wear.

Quick Tip! Installing a Component Mechanical Seal in a Viking Pump with the U-Plus™ Bracket

Welcome, in this quick tip video we will guide you through the installation of a stuffing box component mechanical seal in Viking Pump’s with the U-Plus™ bracket. First, place the seal collar onto the shaft with the stepped side facing the end of the shaft. Insert a hex head wrench into the seal access hole and into a set screw to hold the seal collar in place. Install the seal installation sleeve with the taper toward the end of the shaft. Lubricate the shaft and inside of the rotary member of the seal.

How do you pump asphalt cement?

What is asphalt cement? And how do you pump it? Asphalt cement, or clean asphalt, contains no fillers and is an oil-based liquid. It is typically handled at higher temperatures to reduce viscosity. Asphalt cement is used in a number of applications, but the most common include paving roads and providing waterproofing for building materials. So what's required to pump asphalt cement? Asphalt cement can solidify if it cools. Jacketed pumps allow the pump to be heated with hot oil or steam prior to startup, preventing product from solidifying inside the pump.

1124C-BXB SERIES™

1124C-BXB

The 1124C-BXB Series™ non-jacketed internal gear pumps are part of Viking Pump’s Liquid Specific Product Line. They feature the O-Pro® Barrier Seal, making them an ideal solution for demanding applications such as starch and adhesives, where mechanical seals often fail and traditional packing can leak and create cleanup issues. They can handle flows up to 200 GPM (45 m³/h).

Replacing a Component Mechanical Seal in Viking pump's with the U-Plus™ Bracket

Before you begin, please consult the appropriate technical service manual for safety information. A copy of the latest revision can be found on our website at vikingpump.com. To begin, bend up the tang of the lock washer. Place a brass or hardwood bar into the port opening to keep the pump from turning. Loosen and remove the locknut. Remove and discard the lock washer. Loosen the bearing housing set screws. Loosen and remove the bearing housing. Remove the bearing spacer collar. The collar may have come out the bearing housing. Remove the half round rings.
